Polishing Wooden Furniture

Why does high-quality polishing determine the excellent details of wooden furniture?

Polishing is an important process in the production of solid wood furniture that determines the quality of product details. Therefore, the quality control of this process also reflects the overall quality management level of the factory.

Polishing Wooden Furniture

In the production of furniture products with wood-panel combination, the polishing process first involves polishing and processing of wooden parts. In the quality standards manual of the woodworker department in a general furniture production workshop, the following three requirements must be met for the quality of polishing:

Wooden Furniture Surface Polishing
After polishing, the product surface should be smooth, flat, and free of obvious sand marks, waves, scratches, and other defects.
Not Even Shape Wooden Furniture
The primer at the edges of the product parts and the veneer should not be worn through by sand, and there should be no paint shine (if there is, it indicates that a part has not been polished).
Carving Wooden Furniture
In the carving parts and process lines of the product parts, the polishing should be evenly consistent in terms of force and processing depth, and there should be no defects such as roughness, paint accumulation, and paint shine.
In order to achieve better smoothness and hand feel, different precision polishing is carried out according to the technical requirements of polishing wooden furniture. For example, using 400-grit sandpaper for the first polishing, 600-grit sandpaper for the second polishing, 800-grit sandpaper for the third polishing, 1000-grit sandpaper for the fourth polishing, 1200-grit sandpaper for the fifth polishing, and 1800-grit sandpaper for the sixth polishing, and so on.

The manual tools, pneumatic tools, or power tools used in polishing all need to be calibrated beforehand to ensure normal working conditions. Workers should perform polishing operations on an appropriate illuminated and suitable workstation. The quality of each polishing operation will affect the assembly and paint processing of subsequent operations. Therefore, the main job of QC in the workshop is to identify parts that do not meet quality requirements, guide and re-inspect workers in the factory for rework or disposal of non-conforming products, and prevent defective products from entering the next process.

Polishing components that have not been strictly inspected and sorted on-site for quality supervision will have multiple quality defects, including but not limited to local scratches, defects, dents, dirt, bubbling of the paint layer, uneven color of the paint layer, etc., after completing all paint spraying procedures.
QC with rich quality control experience supervises and guides the production of each piece of furniture and conduct strict quality inspections in each production process. This reliable quality control system can ensure that quality inspections of every step of the process can be traced back to the source, ensuring that the furniture is delivered in perfect condition to the user.
